Thought-Leadership
Advancing the $2.6 billion Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) to the NSF’s Major Facilities Design Phase. Following years of FSP work securing federal funding for the GMT in appropriations bills and at NSF, FSP’s efforts culminated in the administration selecting the GMT to advance to the Final Design Phase in June 2025, a critical step toward GMT receiving federal construction funding. FSP’s efforts to advance the project to the Final Design Phase have also drawn significant new private funders, a key component for this public-private partnership totaling $2.6 billion.
